"Possessing all merits and departing from all falsehood..." and so forth: here the wording is inverted; one should first depart from falsehood and only afterward possess merits. Thus the Avataṃsaka states: "This bodhisattva understands that all sentient beings are without [the reality of] sentient beings, and understands that all phenomena are without life span, and so forth. Through understanding this, one is able to depart from falsehood. Because the mind clings to nothing, one attains in moment after moment the inexhaustible ten powers, the good stages, fully endowed with all merits and accomplishing purified roots of goodness. All required implements of pleasure are planted. One's physical form is peerless, and one's majesty and radiance transcend all worlds, up to being able to attain the merits of the ten kinds of inexhaustible treasuries."
