No one ascends the jeweled pavilion, / Yet people vie to rush into hell. / Once one's life comes to an end, / Why enter the gates of the underworld springs? / People rarely arrive in the west, / Yet they vie to rush into hell. / Reciting the Buddha's name is like a bright mirror; / Committing transgressions is murky and dark. / There is no need to go to hell; / Return early to the Pure Land! / In the ponds there is truly wondrous joy; / For eternal eons no wailing is heard. / Hell is bitter with freezing cold and sorrow; / The Ox-Head is right before one's eyes. / When sinners are about to enter, / They weep and wail to heaven in agony. / If during life one does not recite the Buddha's name, / After death one enters the gates of the underworld springs. / Repeatedly suffering in cauldrons of boiling water, / Fierce flames terrify the human soul. / Śākya sits upon the dais, / The disciples vie to listen, / As he explains the suffering of this Jambudvīpa, / Where saṃsāra does not pause for a moment. / The west is truly full of wondrous joy, / A purple lotus dais of a hundred jewels, / Paths demarcated with yellow gold; / Seeing it, generate the aspiration to go. / The jeweled pavilion appears in the west; / The golden dais is even more lovely. / In the ponds, transformationally born sons / Part the red lotuses in the water. / The water in the jasper pond, / The lotuses are luxuriantly fragrant. / When the blossoms open, one can see the Buddha, / And hearing the Dharma, awaken to the truly eternal. / Conjured pavilions abound in verdant green; / Golden towers have hanging jewel nets; / Mani banners and canopies above; / Pond waters with a hundred varieties of flowers. / In this one life, diligently recite the Buddha's name, / Vowing to escape Sahā. / With body and mind uninterrupted, / Sit forever upon the lotus leaves. / Take refuge and recite Amitābha Buddha; / Bow your head to that Tathāgata. / Vow to be born in the Land of Sukhāvatī, / To sit upon flower daises in the ponds. / Humbly turn your mind toward the western path; / With a modest heart gather in sentient beings. / Amitābha looks upon you with compassion; / When retribution is exhausted, he naturally welcomes you.
