Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying in the kingdom of Śrāvastī, in the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍada-ārāma, together with an assembly of 1,250 great monks, all of whom were great arhats known to the multitude: the Elder Śāriputra, Mahāmaudgalyāyana, Mahākāśyapa, Mahākātyāyana, Mahākaushṭhila, Revata, Śuddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ānanda, Rāhula, Gavāmpati, Piṇḍolabhāradvāja, Kālodayin, Mahākapphiṇa, Vakkula, Aniruddha—such great disciples as these; along with bodhisattva-mahāsattvas: Mañjuśrī the Dharma Prince, Ajita Bodhisattva, Gandhahastin Bodhisattva, Nityodyukta Bodhisattva, together with great bodhisattvas such as these, as well as Śakra Devendra and an immeasurable multitude of all devas.
