3.17

Only the Buddha alone is uniquely supreme, / The parent of the three realms, the omniscient one. / Equal to all, having none equal to him, / I bow my head to the Bhagavat, of rare comparison. / Ordinary people practice generosity for their own benefit, / Seeking reward, they give with wealth; / The Buddha's great benevolence is free of such things, / Benefiting enemies, kin, the hated, and the beloved equally. / To the person of great vigor I take refuge; / The Buddha is the supreme honored one among two-legged beings. / Those with the eye of wisdom can know and see; / The gods do not comprehend this wisdom. / To the Buddhas of the past, future, and present, / To them all I bow my head in reverence. / Thus I now take refuge in the Buddha, / And likewise revere the two Bhagavats.
