1.62

佛復告身觀菩薩曰：「道場淨、國土淨、眾生淨，道亦清淨，是為菩薩摩訶薩無根義。根淨、力淨、覺意淨、道品淨，道亦清淨。云何？身觀菩薩！我今問汝，汝當報我。如來修治道場坐樹王下，云何分別眾生之類，用有記法耶？無記法耶？有記法者塵勞之垢，無記法者亦是塵勞之垢，以何無記而授眾生決？」

The Buddha further said to Bodhisattva Kāya-vipaśyanā: "The purity of the bodhimaṇḍa, the purity of the lands, and the purity of sentient beings, and the Path is also pure; this is the meaning of non-basis for bodhisattva-mahāsattvas. The purity of the faculties, the purity of the powers, the purity of the factors of awakening, and the purity of the requisites of the Path, and the Path is also pure. How is it, Bodhisattva Kāya-vipaśyanā? I now ask you, and you should reply to me: when the Tathāgata adorns the bodhimaṇḍa and sits beneath the king of trees, how does he distinguish the categories of sentient beings? Does he use determined dharmas or undetermined dharmas? Determined dharmas are defilements of affliction; undetermined dharmas are likewise defilements of affliction. By what undetermined [dharma] does he bestow prophecy upon sentient beings?"
