爾時，座上魔界眾生，計常斷滅，言苦有樂，無常謂有常，無身謂有身，習四顛倒不識明慧，五蓋自覆貪著利養。爾時，世尊欲度斯等，邪見之人，重說頌曰：

At that time, sentient beings belonging to Māra's realm in the assembly grasped at eternalism and annihilationism, claiming that suffering contains joy, calling the impermanent permanent, calling the non-self self, practicing the four inversions, failing to recognize clear wisdom, covered by the five hindrances, and greedily attached to profit and offerings. At that time, wishing to deliver these people of wrong views, the Bhagavat spoke verses once more, saying:
