爾時，世尊還攝威神，在金棺裏寂然無聲，諸天燒香散花供養。時大迦葉將五百弟子從摩伽提國來至佛所，聞佛今日當取滅度，悲啼㘁泣不能自勝。爾時，世尊以天耳聞迦葉來至，即從棺裏雙出兩足，迦葉見之手捉摩捫，啼泣不能自勝。爾時，迦葉普說頌曰：

At that time, the Bhagavat withdrew his spiritual power and lay silent within the golden coffin, while all the devas burned incense and scattered flowers in offering. Then Mahākāśyapa, leading five hundred disciples, came from Magadha to the Buddha’s location. Hearing that the Buddha was to attain parinirvāṇa this day, he wept and wailed, unable to contain his grief. At that time, the Bhagavat, hearing with his divine ear that Kāśyapa had arrived, immediately brought forth both feet from the coffin. When Kāśyapa saw them, he held and stroked them with his hands, weeping uncontrollably. Then Kāśyapa spoke these verses to all:
