爾時，迦葉及五百弟子，皆遶金棺七匝在一面立。爾時，阿難捉棺西北角，難陀捉東北角，諸天在後侍，直北出去雙樹四十九步，安厝金棺，隨沙門法，以牛頭栴檀香積金棺上；諸梵天王、釋提桓因，將諸天眾在虛空中散花供養。爾時，尊者迦葉，手執火然栴檀薪而耶維之；八大國王爭分舍利，隨力多少各持歸供養。

At that time, Kāśyapa and the five hundred disciples circumambulated the golden coffin seven times and stood to one side. Then Ānanda held the northwest corner of the coffin, Nanda held the northeast corner, and the devas attended behind. Going straight north forty-nine paces out from the Twin Trees, they placed the golden coffin; in accordance with the method of śramaṇas, they heaped gośīrṣa sandalwood incense upon the golden coffin. The Brahmā kings and Śakra Devānām Indra, leading assemblies of devas, scattered flowers in offering from the sky. Then Venerable Kāśyapa, holding fire in his hand, ignited the sandalwood firewood and performed the jhāpita. The kings of the eight great states vied to divide the śarīra, each taking a share back to worship according to their power.
