爾時世尊告造行菩薩曰：「善哉，善哉！汝所問義，皆為當來、過去、現在，亦是諸佛行業果報。吾今一一分別，諦聽，諦聽！善思念之！云何造行菩薩！欲使如來說過去無量阿僧祇劫行業果報耶？欲使如來說未來無量阿僧祇劫行業果報耶？欲使如來說現在無量阿僧祇劫行業果報耶？」

At that time, the Bhagavat said to Zao Xing Bodhisattva: "Excellent, excellent! The meanings you have asked about all pertain to the future, the past, and the present, and are also the karmic deeds and retributions of all the Buddhas. I shall now distinguish them one by one. Listen closely! Listen closely! Reflect upon this well! How is it, Zao Xing Bodhisattva? Do you wish the Tathāgata to expound the karmic deeds and retributions of immeasurable asaṃkhyeya kalpas in the past? Do you wish the Tathāgata to expound the karmic deeds and retributions of immeasurable asaṃkhyeya kalpas in the future? Or do you wish the Tathāgata to expound the karmic deeds and retributions of immeasurable asaṃkhyeya kalpas in the present?"
