7.86

「爾時尸利掘長者，有小因緣出外遊戲，見佛在門方問佛言：『何時至此？』佛告長者：『卿前請我，我即來此，汝在內快自娛樂，今已經九十日，欲還晝闇園中，得君供養食馬熟麥。』時尸利掘長者，極懷慚愧五體投地：『唯願世尊，垂恕不及，聽我悔過。』佛告長者：『此緣久有，非適今也！』爾時長者請佛入宮舍四事供養，佛為說法，諸塵垢盡得法眼淨。

"At that time, the elder Śrīgupta had a small matter and went outside for recreation. Seeing the Buddha at the gate, he then asked the Buddha: 'When did you arrive here?' The Buddha said to the elder: 'You previously invited me, so I came here. You were enjoying yourself inside, and ninety days have now passed. I wish to return to the Andhavana Grove, having received your offering of horse's boiled barley.' At that time, the elder Śrīgupta felt extreme shame, and threw himself to the ground with the five limbs prostrated: 'May the Bhagavat extend forbearance toward my failing and allow me to repent my fault!' The Buddha told the elder: 'This condition has existed for a long time; it is not just of today!' Then the elder invited the Buddha to enter his residence and provided the fourfold offerings. The Buddha preached the Dharma for him, and with all defilements exhausted, he attained the pure Dharma eye."
