At that time, the Bhagavat, the Arhat, the Samyaksambuddha entered the samādhi of the Supreme Sovereign Contemplative Thought and surveyed the past, future, and present kalpa counts of the bodhisattva-mahāsattvas—those who ought to enter parinirvāṇa in one kalpa, two kalpas, up to hundreds of thousands of uncounted kotis of kalpas. There were bodhisattva-mahāsattvas who had made offerings to the buddhas, perfected merit, converted sentient beings, and purified buddha-realms. There were bodhisattva-mahāsattvas who practiced the eighth stage of kumārabhadra, taking no wife or children and eliminating lustful thoughts, dwelling solely on their own ground without parents or siblings, achieving the unexcelled, correct, true, and equal awakening. The Buddha said to Mañjuśrī: "Manifest your ancient [state of] seventy-nine kalpas ago in the Realm of Flower Radiance, where, while in the womb, you taught the Dharma as a complete-body śarīra. The people of that land were a thousand yojanas in height, and the Buddha's body was ten thousand yojanas. To the east, west, south, north, the four intermediate directions, above, and below, it was measureless, boundless, and incalculable, beyond what could be calculated by reckoners or their disciples. Your original [dwelling] was fundamentally pure there; manifest your supernormal powers through the light and physical marks of that Buddha-body, so that this great assembly may behold them at once, benefiting sentient beings within the lineage of the Tathāgata."
