30.168

「畜生之中，或有身如窓中遊塵，復有眾生身如十千由旬，復有眾生壽命如一時頃，復有眾生壽命一劫，以惡業故在彼中生，不知善法亦無智慧，常行不善無明黑暗，嶮惡道中常受飢渴，捶打乘騎負重困乏，領穿脊破蚊虻毒蟲競相唼食。

“Among the animals, there are some whose bodies are like dust motes floating in a window, while other sentient beings have bodies of ten thousand yojanas; there are some sentient beings whose lifespan is like the duration of a single moment, while other sentient beings have a lifespan of a kalpa. Born therein because of evil karma, they know nothing of wholesome dharmas and have no wisdom. Constantly doing what is unwholesome in the darkness of ignorance, they constantly suffer hunger and thirst along the steep and evil paths, being beaten, ridden, burdened with heavy loads, and exhausted, their necks pierced, their spines broken, and compete to be bitten and devoured by mosquitoes, horseflies, and poisonous bugs.
