"Seventh is contemplating the empty nature of sin. It has no real mark; it is born from causes and conditions and exists through inversion. Since it is born from causes and conditions, it can likewise be extinguished through causes and conditions. Being born from causes and conditions refers to drawing near to evil friends and committing [misdeeds] without restraint; being extinguished through causes and conditions refers precisely to washing one's mind today and performing kṣamā. Therefore, a sūtra states: 'This mark of sin is not inside, not outside, and not in between; thus one knows that this sin is fundamentally empty.'
