17.49

The Buddha told the bhikṣu: "The parts of those many fine dust motes could be known, yet the Buddhas of the same name Śākyamuni who are presently in the world and have entered parinirvāṇa cannot be known by counting—their mothers all named Mahāmāyā, their fathers all named King Śuddhodana, their cities all named Kapilavastu, their foremost śrāvaka disciples all named Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana, and their attendant disciples all named Ānanda—how much more so for those of various different names!"
