23.16

At the western gate, there were six thousand śramaṇas coming to enter it. The sinners wailed loudly, unwilling to enter. Horse-headed rākṣasas held iron forks in their hands, thrusting them toward their chests and exiting through their backs as they entered inside; iron birds flew high, swooping down and entering them. When the sinners raised their heads, [the birds] entered through their mouths and came out from beneath their feet; furthermore, boas entered their eyes, and fire blazed within their bodies.
