"Furthermore, from the beginningless past down to the present day, regarding the Dharma, we have perhaps handled sūtra scrolls with impure hands, or enclosed them in boxes to be moth-eaten and rot, or let the rods and scrolls fall apart and chapters fall out of sequence, or let seams unravel, omissions and errors occur, and paper and ink tear and ruin, neither repairing them ourselves nor being willing to circulate them. Such transgressions are immeasurable and boundless; therefore, we disciples today with utmost sincerity take refuge in all Buddhas."
