"Furthermore, bestowing the bliss of the Buddha Path and the bliss of nirvāṇa upon all beings is called great loving-kindness (mahāmaitrī). The practitioner contemplates: 'In the present and in the future, great beings practice loving-kindness and benefit everyone; I, too, am covered [by it], and they are my excellent benefactor. I ought to practice loving-kindness and fully repay their gracious gift.' Again he reflects: 'The loving-kindness of the venerable ones has compassionate regard for all beings and takes this as its bliss; I, too, should do likewise, having mindful concern for those sentient beings so that they attain the bliss of the Buddha and the bliss of nirvāṇa; this is to repay their kindness.'
