"Furthermore, Śāriputra! In autumn, one should enter the earth samādhi. Entering the earth samādhi, one sees these earth marks: hundreds of thousands of stone mountains, iron mountains, Iron Ring Mountains, and vajra mountains from head to foot, the three hundred and thirty-six joints each becoming hundreds of thousands of mountains, with craggy mountain spirits. At that time, one should swiftly cure it. As for the method for curing the earth element, visualize these mountains, contemplating each and every one clearly as like a plantain tree; in this order, contemplate each and every one clearly according to the ten similes of the sūtras. At that time, one sees only the great earth in the ten directions like white vaiḍūrya, with white precious flowers, and sees Śāriputra, Maudgalyāyana, Kāśyapa, and Kātyāyana sitting in white vajra caves, treading on the ground as if it were water, explaining the five destructions and five combinations for the practitioner, and explaining the impermanence of earth. Having seen this, the practitioner's body and mind become supple, and they recover their original mind. (This is named the method for curing the earth element.)
