"Contemplating each half-joint clearly like this, make all three hundred and thirty-six joints distinctly clear, causing the mind to remain still; then repeat this back and forth one thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine times. Afterwards, gather the breath in one place, harmonise it by counting the breath, and visualise a Brahmā king holding a Brahmā vase in his hand, approaching the practitioner together with a retinue of Brahmās, and taking a vajra blade to bestow upon the practitioner. Having obtained the blade, [the practitioner] cuts out a piece of his own skull bone—as large as a horse's mother-of-pearl—and places it upon his left knee. In the Brahmā vase there grows a white lotus flower with nine nodes, nine stalks, and nine layers. Following behind the Brahmā king, a youth emerges from the first lotus flower, his body white like a person of white jade, holding a white vase in his hand containing sarpirmaṇḍa.
