"Having spoken these words, [the wise one] should further instruct [the monk] to sweep the stūpa, plaster the ground, perform all kinds of arduous labor, and instruct him to contemplate the Buddha again, seeing the Buddha emit golden light and rub his head with a hand. Only then should he instruct him in the contemplation of impurity. When the gate of impurity is penetrated through and free of all hindrances, only then may he be permitted to recite the precepts among the saṅgha.
