3.64

是時如來以梵音聲，猶如慈父安慰其子，告諸優婆塞言：「法子還坐，佛當為汝除斷疑悔，滅諸障礙。」說是語已，告諸優婆塞：「汝等先世無量劫時，於閻浮提各作國王，王領諸國快得自在。有諸沙門為利養故，為汝邪說不順佛教，法說非法、非法說法，汝等諸人皆信用之。是人以此諸惡教故，命終之後墮阿鼻地獄，汝等隨順惡友教故，命終亦墮黑闇地獄。由前聞法善心力故，今遭我世受持五戒，汝今應當佛、法、僧前，說汝邪見邪友所教，誠心懺悔。」

At that time, the Tathāgata, with a Brahmā voice like that of a compassionate father comforting his children, told the upāsakas: "Dharma sons, return to your seats. The Buddha will cut off and eliminate doubt and regret for you, and extinguish all obstacles." Having spoken these words, he told the upāsakas: "In a past life immeasurable kalpas ago, you were each kings in Jambudvīpa, ruling over various countries and happily possessing independence. There were śramaṇas who, for the sake of material gain, spoke falsely to you contrary to the Buddha's teaching, preaching non-Dharma as Dharma and Dharma as non-Dharma, and you all trusted them. Because of these evil teachings, those people fell into the Avīci hell after death, and because you followed the teachings of evil friends, you also fell into the dark hell after death. Due to the power of the wholesome mind from having heard the Dharma previously, you now encounter my era and uphold the five precepts. You should now confess with a sincere mind before the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha regarding what was taught by your wrong views and evil friends."
