佛告阿難：「云何名慈心？慈心者：應當繫念緣苦眾生。苦眾生者，謂三惡道極苦惱者。」
The Buddha said to Ānanda: "What is called the benevolent mind? As for the benevolent mind: one should fix one's mindfulness upon suffering sentient beings. As for suffering sentient beings, they are those in the three evil destinies who undergo utmost suffering and affliction."
