At that time, all the ghosts gathered from the four directions like rising clouds. Some ghosts had heads like ox heads with forty ears, from within which grew iron arrows with red flames rising one yojana high; they had eighteen horns, upon the tips of which they lifted up mountains, on which were dragons holding heated iron balls in their mouths. Other ghosts had heads like fox heads with ten thousand eyes, their eyelashes long and great like lightning flames, mouths upon their necks vomiting blazing fire, and the hairs upon their bodies like trees of swords. Other ghosts hung suspended upside down in the air with twelve legs, bearing a thousand wheel-knives at their heels, their heads like Mount Tai, with five hundred sword-trees atop their heads from which fires flared up. Other ghosts crept along writhing on their bellies, bearing Mount Cakravāḍa upon their arched backs as they arrived. Still other ghosts had many heads upon a single neck, mouths with a thousand tongues, upon which grew thorny bramble trees, their hair and manes surging upward, raining blood from the tips of the hairs, vomiting thorns as they ran swiftly, soaring through the sky as they came.
