The nuns remembered their past lives for themselves: formerly in a past life, immeasurable kalpas ago, a Buddha appeared in the world, also named Śākyamuni. After that Buddha entered parinirvāṇa, there were disciples who went forth to practice the path. One among the Saṅgha was traveling and teaching, and saw five hundred young women in the mountains and marshes amusing themselves with pleasure. At that time, that monk maintained his deportment, walking slowly and serenely to where the women were, spread his niṣīdana on the ground, and sat. Having seen him, the women each rejoiced and said: "This secluded place is where gods and immortals roam, yet suddenly there is this superior monk coming to sit here; he is surely no ordinary person, and we should make offerings to him." Each took off her silver bracelet and scattered them over the monk, [saying]: "The monk is vigorous and completely endowed with virtuous practice; he will certainly become a Buddha in the future. May we see him at that time just as these scattered bracelets!"
