The Buddha told the women: "Listen attentively, listen attentively, and reflect on it well! The Tathāgata will now explain it for you. Long ago in the distant past, immeasurable ages ago, there was a Buddha in the world named Ratnachattradīparāja Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha. After that Buddha's parinirvāṇa, during the Semblance Dharma, there were monks who entered a village to beg for food. Holding their alms bowls and sounding staffs, without violating decorum, they arrived at the house of courtesans. At that time, the courtesans took a monk's bowl, filled it with rice, and mockingly said to the monk: 'You son of the Śākyas! Your complexion is repulsive, like a pile of ink, and the clothes worn on your body resemble those of a beggar. Your repulsiveness is peerless in the world; you claim to be devoid of desire, so who would ever think of you?' At that time, the monk, having heard these words, threw his bowl into the air and flew away. Seeing this, the women felt shame and repented, saying: 'Now that we have given food to a śramaṇa, may our bodies in a future life attain freedom just like a śramaṇa.'"
