“Hundreds of millions of rays of light illuminate the western direction, reaching to the immeasurable worlds of the western direction. The light is variegated in color like the moon and stars. Amidst the stars and moon are seven-jeweled pearls: one pearl brings forth water, one pearl brings forth fire, one pearl produces a tree—the tree being made of the seven jewels with adamantine fruits—and one pearl produces flowers. Within the moonlight are palaces of Brahmā, fully furnished with the Brahmā king’s retinue and the treasures of the Brahmā hosts. Within the starlight is the palace of Maheśvara and his retinue. In each heavenly palace are a million koṭis of Brahmā kings; each Brahmā king has immeasurable and innumerable hosts of devas as his retinue; and the number of Maheśvaras and others is unknowable. These jeweled pearls emit lapis lazuli light. Within the lapis lazuli light are pure golden images. The pure golden images sit upon white jeweled seats, their necks adorned with the radiance of red pearls, and within the radiance of the red pearls are transformation Buddhas of green pearls. These transformation Buddhas and the hosts of devas, with different mouths but a single voice, praise and proclaim non-killing, encouraging practitioners to practice great loving-kindness and compassion.”
