1.25

佛言：「彌勒不來下，有四因緣：一者、有時福應彼間；二者、是間人麁無能受經者；三者、功德未滿；四者、世間有能說經者，故彌勒不下。當來下，餘有五億七千六十萬歲，彌勒時人眼皆見四千里。彌勒時人眼見四千里者，本行十因緣得：一者、不掩人眼明；二者、不捨人眼；三者、不覆蔽人眼；四者、不藏人善；五者、不視殺；六者、不視盜；七者、不視婬；八者、不視陰私及人短；九者、諸惡事不視；十者、然燈於佛寺；是為十事。

The Buddha said: "That Maitreya does not come down is due to four nidānas: first, there are times when merit corresponds to that other realm; second, the people in this realm are crude and none can receive the sūtras; third, his merits are not yet complete; fourth, there are people in the world who can expound the sūtras; therefore Maitreya does not descend. When he descends in the future, there remain five hundred and seventy million six hundred thousand years. In Maitreya's time, people's eyes will all see for four thousand li. That in Maitreya's time people's eyes will see for four thousand li is attained through originally practicing ten nidānas: first, not covering other people's eyesight; second, not harming other people's eyes; third, not obscuring or shielding other people's eyes; fourth, not concealing other people's goodness; fifth, not watching killing; sixth, not watching theft; seventh, not watching sexual misconduct; eighth, not spying on secret matters and other people's shortcomings; ninth, not watching any evil deeds; tenth, lighting lamps in Buddhist temples; these are the ten things.
