The Buddha said: "Sentient beings regard ten things as good, and likewise regard ten things as evil: three of the body, four of the mouth, and three of the mind. The three of the body are killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. The four of the mouth are duplicity, abusive speech, false speech, and frivolous speech. The three of the mind are jealousy, wrath, and folly, not having faith in the Three Honored Ones, and taking the perverse to be the real. If an upāsaka practices the five precepts without remiss or retreat, reaching up to the ten things, he will surely attain the Way."
