「善男子！云何壽命相？謂諸眾生心照清淨覺所了者，一切業智所不自見猶如命根。善男子！若心照見一切覺者皆為塵垢，覺、所覺者不離塵故；如湯銷氷無別有氷，知氷銷者，存我、覺我亦復如是。

"Kulaputra, what is the mark of a life-span? It refers to that which is understood when the mind illuminates pure enlightenment, which is not seen by any karmic wisdom, just like the life-faculty. Kulaputra, if the mind illuminatingly sees all that is awakened as defiling dust, it is because awakening and what is awakened cannot be separated from dust. It is like hot water melting ice: there is no other ice distinct from it; knowing that the ice has melted while retaining a self that is aware of it is also like this.
