Thereupon, Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva arose from his seat in the midst of the great assembly, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him three times to the right, knelt on both knees with joined palms, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "O Bhagavat of Great Compassion! We pray that for the sake of the assembly that has come to this Dharma gathering, you will expound the pure Dharma-practices of the causal stage originally initiated by the Tathāgatas, and speak on how bodhisattvas generate the pure mind within the Mahāyāna and depart far from all defects, so that they can cause sentient beings in the future latter age who seek the Mahāyāna not to fall into false views." Having spoken these words, he cast his five limbs to the ground; thus he made three requests, repeating them from beginning to end.
