"In the southeastern corner, the practitioner makes the image of the Fire Ṛṣi.
He dwells within blazing flames, with three marks of ash as his sign,
his body's color is entirely deep red, and a triangular seal is placed at his heart.
His prajñā [hand] holds a rosary, and his samādhi [hand] holds a vessel,
with his samādhi palm upturned holding a staff, and a blue goat serves as his seat.
His consorts and queen attend on his left and right: the ṛṣi Vasiṣṭha and his wife;
Aṅgiras and Gautama; Atri with his ṛṣi [consort]; and the ṛṣi Bhṛgu!
Next, place Īśvarī; Vaiṣṇavī and Yāmī;
the virtuous one, Makara, and the two fish; Rāhu and Aṅgāraka;
the Great Lord, Hasta; next place Maghā;
the host of seven planets, alternating; Citrā, the self-marked;
fruit-bearing Viśākhā; the host of yakṣas and vidyādharas!
Next is King Virūḍhaka; at the southern gate, the dragon Nanda,
Upandanda the great dragon king, and two asura kings;
near the gate is Kālarātri; next is King Yamarāja,
holding the daṇḍa mudrā in his hand, riding a water buffalo as his seat,
with the color of thunder and dark clouds. The Seven Mothers and Kālī;
surrounded by Mṛtyu, his queen, and his consorts; the attendant messengers and the host of female pretas;
the preta hosts and ḍākinīs; the host of accomplished great ṛṣis;
Maṇi-asura and the host of asuras;
the Garuḍa King and his females, following the Nine-Headed Dragon Mudrā;
kumbhāṇḍas and their females! For the Fire Deva, the thumbs are inside the palms;
for the mudrā of Vasiṣṭha and the other ṛṣis, the thumbs hold the two joints of the little fingers (two mudrās).
Open them in sequence throughout (first opening the index fingers). For Yama, join samādhi and prajñā,
the little fingers and index fingers both entering the palms (bend the thumbs to the middle fingers). For the Seven Mothers, form the samādhi fist,
extract the thumbs and erect them as the hammer mudrā. For Kālarātri, form the samādhi fist,
and extend both the index and middle fingers. For Yama's queen and consorts, the bell [mudrā]:
let the five fingers of the prajñā hand hang down like the form of a ghaṇṭā;
for the ḍākinīs, the samādhi palm is touched by the tongue."
