“The world is of many elements, of diverse elements, ruler of the devas”: ruler of the devas, this world is of many inclinations, of diverse inclinations. When one wishes to go, one wishes to stand. When one wishes to stand, one wishes to lie down. It is rare to find two beings of the same inclination. In that world of many elements and diverse elements, whatever element, whatever inclination beings adhere to and grasp, [they hold] only to that. “By tenacity and dogmatic adherence” means both by firmness and by misapprehension. “Having adhered, they express” means having seized firmly, they express, speak, explain, and proclaim: “Only this is true, the other is empty”; meaning, “Only this statement of ours is true, the statement of others is empty, hollow, and useless.”
