"Rakes": dice-rakes. "Drunkards": those addicted to women, addicted to food, addicted to cakes, addicted to radishes. "Thirsty": addicted to drink. "Cheats": those who deceive with a counterfeit. "Swindlers": swindlers by direct deception. "Violent men": those who commit violent deeds such as burglary. "These are his friends": these are friends of his. He does not take delight with other good men, like a pig adorned with scents, garlands, and so on and placed on a noble couch [does not take delight there, but rather in] a cesspool; he approaches only bad friends. Therefore, both in this visible world and in the world beyond, he encounters much harm.
