Iti bhagavā yā disā sandhāya te gahapatiputta pitā āha ‘‘disā namasseyyāsī’’ti, imā tā cha disā. Yadi tvaṃ pitu vacanaṃ karosi, imā disā namassāti dassento siṅgālassa pucchāya ṭhatvā desanaṃ matthakaṃ pāpetvā rājagahaṃ piṇḍāya pāvisi. Siṅgālakopi saraṇesu patiṭṭhāya cattālīsakoṭidhanaṃ buddhasāsane vikiritvā puññakammaṃ katvā saggaparāyaṇo ahosi. Imasmiñca pana sutte yaṃ gihīhi kattabbaṃ kammaṃ nāma, taṃ akathitaṃ natthi, gihivinayo nāmāyaṃ suttanto. Tasmā imaṃ sutvā yathānusiṭṭhaṃ paṭipajjamānassa vuddhiyeva pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihānīti.

Thus, showing: ‘Householder’s son, the directions your father spoke of, saying, “You should worship the directions,” these are those six directions. If you obey your father’s word, worship these directions,’ the Blessed One, remaining engaged with Siṅgāla’s question, brought the discourse to its culmination and entered Rājagaha for alms. Siṅgālaka, too, established himself in the refuges, expended forty crores of wealth on the Buddha’s Dispensation, made merit, and became bound for heaven. Moreover, in this discourse there is no duty to be done by householders that is left unspoken; this sutta is called the ‘Householder’s Vinaya.’ Therefore, for one who, having heard it, practices in accordance with the instruction, only growth is to be expected, not decline.
