Ayaṃ pana viseso, dutiyavāre mettājhānāni byāpādassa nissaraṇaṃ nāma. Tatiyavāre karuṇājhānāni vihiṃsāya nissaraṇaṃ nāma. Catutthavāre arūpajjhānāni rūpānaṃ nissaraṇaṃ nāma. Accantanissaraṇe cettha arahattaphalaṃ yojetabbaṃ.

This, however, is the distinction: in the second turn, the absorptions on loving-kindness are the escape from ill will. In the third turn, the absorptions on compassion are the escape from cruelty. In the fourth turn, the formless absorptions are the escape from forms. And in the absolute escape, the fruit of arahantship should be applied here.
