At that time, precisely three thousand people among the gatherings harmonized with the meaning of my dharma; immeasurable faith arose in them, and in my presence they recited the names of those Buddhas and bowed down to them, so that they now appear and awaken to buddhahood in the ten directions. O sons of good family, if you wish to purify sins ranging from the four root [transgressions], the heavy sins of the ānantaryas, disparagement of sameness, up to perverse conduct, you must come under the power of a faithful mind. Sons of good family, it is also like this: if anyone, through faithlessness and lack of respect, disparages and treats with contempt the twelve branches of sūtras, the vajra body, the holy personage Mañjuśrī, and the Victorious Ones of the ten directions, they will without doubt fall into the hells; this is not false. Why is that? Because they are faithless. Because they disparage the saddharma. Because they despise the gurus. Because they slander the Buddhas of the ten directions and the three times, they definitely fall into the hells. If one has faith in the names of those Buddhas and bows down from the depths of one's heart, it is impossible that sins such as the ten non-virtues, the five ānantaryas, and disparagement of sameness will not be purified; however, the faithless, the disrespectful, those whose roots of virtue are severed, and those of perverse conduct are not included in this. Sons of good family, the emanation of one hundred thousand bodies of Śākyamuni also resides in each world acting as Teacher, and the last body is myself. At that time, all three thousand men who were my companions have now attained buddhahood: the leader of the first thousand is called the Buddha Padmaprabha; the leader of the middle thousand is called the Buddha Vajrakāya; the leader of the last thousand is called the Buddha Maitreya. Therefore, it is right that you too should likewise recite the names of the Buddhas of the ten directions and the three times, and bow down to them. In the future, you should widely act as teachers to the many assemblies and benefit boundless sentient beings;
