made their pledge. Fully adorning awakening, benefiting and bringing happiness to all sentient beings, mindful of the Buddha's kindness, and in order to repay the Buddha's kindness, they arose from their seats, joined their palms in veneration, and requested: "Please entrust this sūtra of the Buddha to us." At that time, the Venerable Ānanda addressed the Buddha: "Bhagavān, what is the title of this sūtra? How should it be remembered?" The Bhagavān replied to Ānanda: "The title of this sūtra may be 'Gathering All Wholesome Things'; it may also be called 'Great Skill in Means'; it may also be called 'The Practice of the Sublime Intention'; and it may also be called 'Repaying the Kindness of the Buddha'." The Bhagavān said to Ānanda and the bodhisattva mahāsattvas: "Practice earnestly, just as it has been taught!" When the Buddha taught this chapter of complete entrustment, seventy-two thousand śrāvakas aroused the mind directed toward unsurpassed awakening. Furthermore, gods, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, humans, non-humans, and all the others rejoiced in what the Buddha had spoken. From the Sūtra of Great Skill in Means and Repaying the Kindness of the Buddha, this was the ninth chapter, entitled "Drawing Near." The Sūtra entitled "Great Skill in Means and Repaying Kindness" is complete.
