benefits that truly establish complete subsumption': 'Bhagavān, from what causes do those pāramitās arise, what fruits do they possess, and what purpose do they serve?' and so forth. Regarding 'skill in the hindrances to benefiting sentient beings': 'Bhagavān, if bodhisattvas possess unattached enjoyment and are compassionate, why are there poor people in the world?' and so forth. Regarding 'skill in the non-wastage of engaging in means': 'Bhagavān, through which pāramitā does a bodhisattva apprehend the non-essential nature of dharmas?' and so forth. Regarding 'skill in decrease and increase': 'Bhagavān, is that also called a pāramitā?' and so forth. Regarding 'skill in dismantling adherence through the causes of affliction': 'Bhagavān, how many kinds of latent afflictive tendencies are there on those bhūmis?' and so forth. Regarding 'skill in the classification of distinct deliverances': 'Bhagavān, when you stated that whichever is the vehicle of the śrāvakas and whichever is the Mahāyāna, that is a single vehicle, what was your intention?' and so forth. Here, first, the word meaning and so forth of skill in the means of fully maturing oneself and sentient beings will be explained. As for 'skill in the means of fully maturing oneself and sentient beings': the six pāramitās are the means of fully maturing oneself and sentient beings, and the explanation of becoming skilled in them is taught here. Therefore, having taken that teaching into consideration, it was asked, 'Bhagavān, how many bases of training of bodhisattvas are there?' 'Bases of training' refers to the bases in which bodhisattvas must train as the means to fully mature themselves and sentient beings,
