namely, the six pāramitās. Regarding the statement 'They are six', each of the six pāramitās is also to be understood in nine aspects. The nine aspects of giving are: the intrinsic nature of giving, giving everything, difficult giving, giving through all avenues, the giving of a noble person, giving in all manners, giving to those who are destitute and desirous, giving that brings happiness here and hereafter, and purified giving. Here, what is the intrinsic nature of giving? It is giving endowed with the five characteristics: intrinsic nature, avenue, entity, intention, and recipient. Here, the intrinsic nature is the intention co-emergent with non-attachment that does not regard all material requisites or one's own body. The avenue is the physical and vocal action motivated thereby that completely gives away the material objects to be given. The entity is relinquishing all faultless material objects to be given. The intention is abiding by vows, seeing [the recipient] approach, and regarding the result. The recipient is giving that material object respectively to whoever desires it. What is giving everything? It is twofold: giving internal and external entities. Furthermore, suitably, it is threefold: entity, cause, and distinction. What is difficult giving? It is threefold: giving to others by accepting suffering at one's own cost when one has few things to give; giving to others after dispelling clinging to beloved things that are naturally dear, long familiar, greatly beneficial, or supreme and most excellent objects of giving; and giving to others those religious teachings that were accomplished with great toil. What is giving through all avenues? It is fourfold: giving the objects to be given
