are: possessed of aspiration, possessed of concordance, distinguished, searching, the vigor of training, and the vigor of guarding one's own genuine practice in every way and mending mistakes in accordance with the dharma. What is vigor regarding what is destitute and desired? It is of eight types: enthusiasm for the begging bowls of suffering beggars; enthusiasm for freeing from that, based on great compassion of the dharma, those sentient beings who have committed great sinful karma of wickedness; enthusiasm for freeing from that, based on great compassion of the dharma, monastics with corrupt discipline; and the five types of striving: striving to eliminate the suffering of suffering sentient beings, seeking the dharmas, practicing the dharma in accordance with the dharma, extensively teaching those very dharmas to others, and enthusiasm for the striving that truly assists in accomplishing the welfare and undertakings of sentient beings. What is vigor that leads to happiness here and hereafter? It is of nine types: enthusiasm for cold, heat, hunger, thirst, being bitten by gnats, being bitten by gadflies, wind, sun, venomous snakes, physical and mental fatigue, and the suffering of saṃsāra. What is completely pure vigor? It is of ten types: appropriate, habitual, undistracted, well seized, striving to habituate in due time, possessed of examining characteristics, undaunted, balanced, and fully dedicating to great awakening. The nine types of meditative concentration are also as before. In that regard, what is the essence of meditative concentration? It is one-pointedness of mind distinguished by four attributes: support, aspect, essence, and side. In that regard, the support is being preceded by hearing and reflecting on the Bodhisattva
