were turned toward subduing and conquering the broad expanse and vast, exceedingly delightful kingdom of Tirhut. The realm-conquering
judgment, which in the very beginnings of correct reflection would peruse the pages of the outcomes of intricate matters, and
would imprint the future events of the days upon the tablet of today, ordained the raising of the banners of the Word of Truth and the manifestation of the laws of the verified Prophet in that land of unbelief and error. Although the rāī of that realm, on account of the multitude,
splendor, and equipment of his army, the strength of his fortress, and his personal power, never at any time
took the cap of pride and arrogance from his head, and gave water to the sword of rebellion and insubordination, and with other sultans of the past, 'like the Christian script, made crookedness his practice'
and like a pen never came to the word of obedience and compliance with them; yet as soon as
he received news of the arrival of the victory-adorned royal standards, out of extreme dread of the overpowering forces—before the circular expanse of which the azure vault of heaven
appeared like a mere four-vaulted pavilion, and the number of fixed stars and planets seemed less than the tent-pegs
of the camp of its humblest squadron—he fell into trembling like the skirt of a tent, became twisted like a tent-rope,
took his tongue between the teeth of distress like a tent-pin, and like the tent of Turcomans the bright world
became black and dark before his eyes. The army of dread made such an assault upon his heart that the clue of counsel slipped from the hand of his managing intellect;
and in the festivities of that fortress—the rising of the sun of good fortune and the star of honor of which he had once considered to be from its sky-scraping tower—he held a mourning for his fortune and kingdom;
he deemed remaining there to be the cause of a journey to the lowest depths of Hell, and his heart resolved upon flight. Instantly he beat the drum of departure, threw his saddle upon the back of the wind-footed steed
of flight, and mounted immediately.
He became a mighty king in the morning, and became poor and abased in the evening. By the author:
There is no refuge for the fugitive from his wrath except Hell, so whoever wishes, let him flee!
