When I hastened from viewing the garden toward that palace, I saw two women within it, adorned with the ornament of perfection, beauty,
and loveliness, the delicacy of their robes lending beauty and value to ornament; you would say the sun and moon had formed a conjunction in a single
mansion, and Venus and Jupiter had come together in a single zodiacal sign; one brought attendants of the corner of seclusion
dragged by the hair into love for her with her chain-like tresses, and the second drew the recluses of the monastery
of isolation toward herself like a bow with her arrow-like stature; one stole the souls of lovers with a heart-ravishing glance,
the second hunted the hearts of the world's people with soul-nourishing coquetry; from shame at the cheeks of one, the sun had sunk
under the earth, and before the beauty of the other, the full moon had not risen; in beholding the symmetry of the height of one, the straight cypress
remained motionless in bewilderment, and out of jealousy of the graceful gait of the second, the royal partridge forgot its strutting;
the beautiful countenance of one made the share of repose and the gift of joy cling to the soul like the splendid first day of the month;
the graceful form of the second cast fire of unrest and impatience into the harvest of the heart; and from the extreme accord that existed between
them, day and night they were not separated from each other, like Gemini and the Two Calves; and like two
kernels in one almond and two pearls in one shell, they [never] gave place or room to separation and estrangement; they were two souls
settled in one frame and one heart having taken abode in two chests; the name of one was Samanbar and the second
was named Gulʿidhār. As soon as they looked toward me, they asked the ascetic about the nature of my condition; the ascetic
disclosed the story of the event to them completely, just as it had been related to him; and in the matter of favor and
[kindness...]
he gave many injunctions regarding my care and upbringing, embraced me in farewell, and returned. For several days
I laid down the staff of travel in that palace and loosened the belt of journeying from my waist, and I said to Samanbar:
