Let souls be sacrificed for you, never to return; / so bring near your presence, or prolong your distance!
The king said: "The gems of petitions that have been organized from the casket of consciences into the string of fine delivery are an ornament
for several nights and days, and became illuminated by the lights of counsels for the elite and common folk alike, and the scribe of the chancellery throne of the celestial sphere, with the pen
of eternity, recorded it upon the pages of time for the admonition of all mankind. The sincerity of our belief and purity
of our conscience regarding you is far beyond this, and this matter has repeatedly become the certainty of sight; for no creature
does any room for doubt or occasion for suspicion remain, and it has become dispensable of exposition and explanation; in the eyes of friend and foe
it has been conjoined with consummate praise and utmost satisfaction. Yet to all, by intuitive reason and the testimony of experience, it has become as clear as
broad daylight that if a king should resolve with determination upon conquest and overcoming the heart of an army,
then by the aid and strength of Rustam-hearted soldiers and the assistance and support of bronze-bodied vanguard warriors, one can tread
with the step of earnestness and exertion in the path of repelling him, and the dust of his rebellion can be laid low by the water of the bloodthirsty sword;
yet when the vanquishing monarch of Love launches an assault upon the army of the heart, and draws the sword of malice and purpose
to seize the arena of the chest, even if the legions of the sound-counselled intellects of all mankind assemble to repel his conquest, and for a thousand
years manly-wise stand firm in this frightful battlefield, in the end they will turn to flight and give their backs
to retreat; and the verse, “And the earth, vast as it was, became narrow for you; then you turned back in retreat,” becomes the likeness of their condition;
and, beyond yielding the neck to the chain of servitude and entreaty, and placing the head on the line of compliance with decree and command, no stratagem
proves fruitful and no deliberation can be of assistance. This is a task that I must perform, and this is a burden that must be brought
to its destination. On this path, no companion is fitting save solitude, and no mate is suitable and harmonious
save estrangement from peerless friends. The sorrowful heart's blood must be my intimate, and the cold sigh of a desire-filled breast is fitting to be my confidant.
Upon the carpet of affection, with the fraudulent gambler of desire for the cruel beloved, I wager the jewel of life and the coin of realm on a single throw,
