78.59

روشنی ندید و هر روز دردی تازه و هر زمان المی نو بر جان او تاختن آوردی و در همه احوال در مجلس محبت جز کأس نامرادی نخوردی و هنوز خود را در زمرهآ مقصران منسلک دانستی و از ابجد خوانان مکتب عشق تصور کردی، تو هم بهزحمت سیر یک روزه از پای درآمدی و هم به تجرع یک جام ناکامی ساغرآسا از دست شدی، نمیدانم که سرانجام کار تو بر چه خواهد بود و این کار را چگونه بهسر خواهی برد، گفتهاند، رباعی:

circumstances in the banquet of love she drank naught but the cup of frustration; and yet she still deemed herself enrolled among the negligent,
and imagined herself among the beginners of the alphabet in the school of love. You too have fallen from your feet from the weariness of a single day’s wandering,
and from swallowing a single cup of frustration have lost control like an emptied goblet! I know not what the end of your affair will be,
or how you will bring this enterprise to a conclusion. They have said, quatrain:
You will not come upon the path of lovers metaphorically; / Until you make a foot out of your head, you will not come.
