The sound opinion is that one should consider the breaking of resolve among the requirements of prudence, and not leave unheeded the principle that 'circumspection consists in distrust'; and one should not show wind-like levity in one's conduct; and from the earth
one should learn patience, and cast the water of dignity and calmness upon the fire of impatience, and not make oneself
wander like the wind, nor cast one's mantle upon a mirage, and make peace with the fire of passion, and
not seek opposition to intellect through haste, like wind in the dust, and not display instability in the fire of desire like an impression upon the surface of water,
and consider the fruit of desire from the tree of purpose impossible without eternal grace, and recognize the result of much striving without the Creator's bestowal as nothing but bodily torment and affliction of the heart;
and not expect the completion of affairs except through the aid of fortune, and not imagine the attainment of hopes without celestial support;
and deem caution against the archer's thumb-ring of fate, which is ever lying in ambush, an obligation; and consider vigilance against the deception and fraud of the world necessary, lest he be duped by the shimmer of its mirage
and lest, like a bird tempted by grain, he become entangled in the snare of calamity and his foot be caught in the snare of sorrow;
and if he considers these words as mere nocturnal chatter, and inscribes them upon the tablet of his soul like an imprint on water,
and scatters the grain-heap of patience to the winds through pride, and dashes the dust of cruelty in the face of intellect,
and abandons the counsel of friends—for 'truly you do not love sincere advisers'—to the wind, and sets fire to
the household of stability and dignity, and mounts the steed of hasty movement like the wind, and with the hand of
impatience heaps dust upon his head, throws water toward the sky, and takes up a fiery course—let it not happen that
