Taj al-maʾathir 5.44

5.44

و نزد عفل دوربین، که در شب5 بلدای حوادث و بیدای نواب دلیکی نیک رأی6 و رفیقی رهمساست. روش و مرهن است7که انچه در9 نفظ کهر بار اخوان صفا کذر یافت، مثلا اکر صد سال به کوش دن فرومی خواند10، جز باد هوس نه پیماید، که رب فصیح مصیع، و عافبت در این میدان کردی ننماید1 ودل غم فرسوده12 از اب چشمو اتش سینه کم نکند2 و به نیرنگ14 و افسون در دام نیاید15 و به سخنان رنگین فرو چاه نشوه و بدم خوش14 مغرور و فریفته" نکردد و به طنزبر شاخ خود رایی جون بلبل این نوازند که.

and he does not fall into the pit through embellished words, nor is he seduced and misled by flattering breath, and on the branch of self-will, like a nightingale, he sings with sarcasm:
'They give me sweet breath like the dawn; if I buy it, / I shall become black-faced like the evening and disgraced like the morning.'
And in such a whirlpool of calamities and turmoil of misfortunes, whoever relies upon the heart and expects patience and
steadfastness from it, is just like one who leans upon the wind, seeks pure gold from dust,
searches for the water of life in fierce fire, erects a building upon the wind of passion, and out of foolishness pours pearls into
the dust, pounds water in a mortar out of idleness, and out of short-sightedness sets his own harvest
