The kingdom of Bljapur was given by Ram Raja two hundred years before 1699 to one of his slaves, a Georgian by race, a renegade called Isoff (Yusuf), who was in charge of the royal treasury. For this reason he is depicted with the golden key in his hand. Upon the death of the emperor Ram Raja he crowned himself, and took the title of —
1. Sultan Yusuf 'Adil Shah, and he reigned 20 years 1 month and 9 days. His descendants are :
2. Sultan Ashraf 'Adjl Shah, reigned 26 years and 19 days.
3. Sultan Ibrahim 'Adil Shah, reigned 24 years 7 months and 25 days.
4. Sultan Muhammad 'Adil Shah, reigned 30 years 6 months and 27 days.
5. Sultan 'Ali 'Adil Shah, reigned 25 years 11 months and 13 days.
6. Sultan Mahmud 'Adil Shah, reigned 44 years 11 months and 9 days.
7. Sultan 'Ali 'Adil Shah, reigned 16 years and 25 days.
8. Sultan Sikandur 'Adil Shah, reigned 15 years.
This last king lost the kingdom, being then fifteen years of age; he became the prisoner of King Aurangzeb, who preserved his life (as it seemed to me) in order to carry out some sacrificial rite. 'Sultan' means 'king'; ''Adil Shah' — that is, 'Just King.'
