Thus the aggregate consisting of mind and mental factors is of five kinds, bearing the names form, consciousness, feeling, conceptualization, and karmic formations. There, by the etymologies 'objects are given form by these' and 'they are given form', the sense organs along with their objects are the form-aggregate. The stream of storehouse-consciousness and active consciousness is the consciousness-aggregate. The stream of cognitions of pleasure, pain, and the like, produced by the connection of the two previously mentioned aggregates, is the feeling-aggregate. The stream of cognitions referring to words such as 'cow' is the conceptualization-aggregate. The defilements such as passion and aversion, the secondary defilements such as intoxication and pride, and merit and demerit, which are grounded in the feeling-aggregate, are the aggregate of karmic formations.
