yadi ca heturavatiṣṭheta nirdeśāt , sāmānyāditi ceda-vyavasthā vidhīnāṃ syāt ||

1.2.30 And if a reason were established by virtue of direct statement, [and] if it is said to be from similarity, there would be lack of settled order among injunctions.
