In the Abhyudayeṣṭi, boiled milk and curd are handed down by tradition: 'Caru cooked in boiled milk; caru cooked in curd.' The ritual details of the praṇītā waters should not be performed on them. The praṇītā waters, which are produced for the purpose of boiling the oblation material, are consecrated with ritual details such as purifying with kuśa strainers and the like. Curd and milk, however, are not produced for the purpose of boiling; rather, they are produced for the purpose of being offered as oblation materials. Therefore, since there is no parity, the ritual details such as purifying with kuśa strainers do not apply to them. If it is argued thus—
Not so. Even though milk and curd are produced for another purpose, their serving as the cause of cooking the caru is expressly stated by text here on the occasion of the rising of the moon. Therefore, their ritual details apply, because of parity.
